Lamar men’s basketball has a new head coach after a disappointing end to their 2025-’26 season.
After finishing the season on an eight-game losing streak and missing the Southland Conference tournament, the old coaching staff was out of the door. This paved the way for Jordan Fee to become the 13th head coach in program history.
Fee’s résumé is nothing short of remarkable. He is responsible for the biggest turnaround in NCAA history, taking division two school Gannon University from a 3-23 record to a 32-3 in one season. After this, he became the associate head coach at Florida Atlantic University before accepting the job here.
LU President Jaime Taylor said Fee is the perfect person to lead LU hoops into the future.
“Jordan understands his success is built on culture, relationships and shared purpose, that philosophy aligns perfectly with who we are and where we are going here at Lamar University,” Taylor said. “Jordan Fee is the right leader to this moment for our men’s basketball team, and we are thrilled to welcome him here and his family to Beaumont and to Lamar University community.”
LU athletic director Jeff O’Malley said Fee’s playing style brings an excitement that will energize fans.
“Jordan’s teams play with pace, discipline and purpose,” O’Malley said. “He coaches an up-tempo style on both sides of the ball, and it will be exciting and demanding and built to compete. It’s the kind of style that energizes a fan base and creates a true home court advantage here in the Neches Federal Credit Union Arena at the Montagne Center.”
Fee made it known that this was the right place for him. He said President Taylor and O’Malley made him feel wanted.
“I tell recruits go where you’re wanted,” Fee said. “Don’t go just where you’re being recruited, go where you’re wanted, and I felt wanted here. I felt like there’s a sense of community here, and that means a lot to my wife and me. When you are at places where you don’t feel that quite as much, you tend to miss it. I had a strong feel that was not the case here, that there is a sense of community. I think the resources are in place. Let’s call it what it is, you need enough to win in the landscape of college basketball as it is today, and we’ll continue to strive to get more be better.”
Fee said he knows the importance of fan support. He said the team needs fans to be in their corner.
“We need to get this place going and it’s going to take all of us,” he said. “We’re going to pour everything we have into this program, and in return, all we’re asking fans to show up, bring the energy and make the Neches Arena at the Montagne Center one of the toughest places to play in the country.”
Fee said academics are also an important part of the job for him when it comes to recruiting.
“I’ve tended to recruit guys and just take care of business on and off the court,” he said. “I always have to get the right people on the bus, and the guys, that tend to have maybe issues in the classroom or off the court tend to be the ones with some struggles on the court, too. So, if we have a choice in who we’re going to bring on the bus, then let’s start right there. Let’s get the guys that can take care of business in the classroom.”
Fee is looking to bring his winning ways to Southeast Texas, and all LU basketball fans should be ecstatic with this hiring.
