Museum celebrates 125 years since Lucas Gusher

The Spindletop Boomtown Museum celebrated the 125th anniversary of the Lucas Gusher, Jan. 17 with a day of festivities.

The museum offered guided tours and patrons were able to visit the buildings and learn the history behind the Spindletop Blowout, with free merchandise and toys available at tables along the way.

Throughout the day, the Texas Top Gun Re-enactors performed skits. which got patrons involved and excited for the stories the re-enactors told.

Patrons could participate in the Southeast TX Speedbumps Xtreme Fast Draw competitions. Anyone who could beat prior records was able to write their name on the board.

“So Hype DJs” kept attendees entertained.

In the evening, Shinyribs took the stage. Attendees could be seen singing along and dancing during the concert. Lead singer Kevin Russell kept the crowd engaged and entertained with his dancing and storytelling abilities.

The Boomtown After Dark tour ended the night, telling stories of Spindletop that patrons had not heard before.

The Spindletop Boomtown Museum is located at 5550 Jimmy Simmons Blvd.
