SGA to host Field Day, March 29

Lamar’s Student Government Association will host Field Day, 3 -7 p.m., March 29, in the Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center. The event will include games, prizes and food trucks.

SGA President Ethan Ellis said students are encouraged to form teams with at least five members who will participate in the events.

“There are five separate games in which teams will participate,” he said. “It should take about three hours.”

Ellis said SGA wants to create an environment where students can have fun.

“It will be our first event leading into our mental health week, which is something that we’ve really been trying to hit on this year — just having this stress-free event where people can just go out there, compete, and have fun,” he said. “1It is about competing sometimes, but it’s all really about having fun.”

Ellis said there will be prizes for winning teams.

“We are currently ordering trophies,” he said. “There will be an overall winner trophy as well as a best student organization. We’re also buying a living plaque, so over the years we can recognize the organizations that won Field Day. We will be having custom tie-dyed shirts, air sprayed hats and free snow cones, and some organizations will be grilling.”

Everything will be provided to the participants and onlookers, Ellis said.

“Onlookers will be able to participate in throwing water balloons during the obstacle course portion,” he said. “If students want to come dressed color coordinated, that would be really cool, but everything should be provided.”
