Lamar University’s Cardinal Activities Board held its Winter Gala, Feb. 7, in the Setzer Student Center Live Oak Ballroom.

Students dressed in formal attire and had their photos taken on a red carpet by CAB staff after checking in. A spread of fruits, meats and desserts were provided, and a DJ played music.

Hayden Jackson, coordinator of student engagement, said students had asked for a formal event where they could dress up. “We really wanted to answer that request from students,” he said. “This was actually really student driven, (CAB) came up with the theme, they came up with the decor. They built everything that we've seen here and have advertised it like crazy, and I'm super proud of it.”

Attendees were able to vote for the best dressed male and female. Rohini Rai placed first, Dynasisa Hickman placed second and Journee Robinson was third in the female category.

“I am very surprised, there were so many beautiful people,” Rai said. “It's my first time winning something like this, and every smallest award means a lot to me, so it's a really big honor. I have goosebumps all over me right now, so I am proud of myself — and I'm proud of everyone, to be honest. Everyone deserves this crown.”

Giovany Angeles won the male category, with Yannick Chang second place and Bernard Onwumare third. “I thought people were actually gonna win over me,” Angeles said. “I didn't think I was gonna win first place. It’s actually pretty fun.” For more information on campus events, visit lamar.edu/events.
