The Lamar University volleyball team lost to Stephen F. Austin, 0-3, Oct. 8, in McDonald Gym.
The Lady Cardinals and the Ladyjacks went back and forth in the first set, trading points early, but LU could not keep up as SFA won the set 25-19.
Lamar got off to a good start in the second set with an 11-2 run. Unfortunately, seven attacking errors cost them the set, losing 25-15.
Despite a seven-point run from the Lady Cardinals in the third set, they could not compete with SFA as the Lady Jacks sealed the sweep, winning the set 25-12.
“We just didn't have enough,” LU head coach Ariel Apolinario said. “I think that offensively we definitely have enough in terms of skill set, but our choices today weren't the best.”
Outside hitter Maja Malinowska finished with six kills and 13 digs while Emily Moon and Lyric Jordan also chipped in six kills each.
Coach Apolinario says that the team needs to better themselves for the next game.
“We knew that (SFA) were not going to give the game to us, that we’ve got to be willing to do a little bit more,” Apolinario said. “We didn't do that tonight. So, if you don't do those things, it's hard to give yourself a chance. Again, credit to the other side, they were the better side. We got a lot of work to do, that's for sure. We know where we want to be and we're going to continue working. There's not another way around it.”
With the loss, the Lady Cardinals are 10-7 overall and 2-3 in Southland Conference play where they sit at 8th place.
The Lady Cardinals are set to play Houston Christian on the road at 11 a.m., Oct. 12. Lamar returns home to play Southeastern Louisiana, Oct. 17, at 6:30 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
