For the first time in program history, the Lamar football team is ranked No. 22 in the STATS Perform Top 25 poll. This comes after LU’s upset over No. 20 Weber State.

The Cardinals are 2-1 overall, the best start to the season since 2021. Last year the Cardinals had their best season since the 2018 season.

Although this is LU’s first time in the STATS poll, LU did receive votes in the poll in 2018 when they made their run to the NCAA FCS Playoffs as well as early in the 2019 season.

In addition to being ranked, LU saw two players receive Southland Conference honors this week. Defensive back DeJuan Lewis was named defensive player of the week. Defensive lineman Christian Booker was named special teams player of the week after his blocked field goal.

The Cardinals look forward to extending their homestead winning streak against Texas Southern University, Sept. 22, at Provost Umphrey Stadium. The Cards will kick-off at 6 .p.m and will be broadcast live on Newstalk 560 and streamed live on ESPN+.
