The New Student Leadership Programs held the annual Casino Night, Aug. 26, in the Student Setzer Center, as part of the campus’ Week of Welcome events.
With games such as Texas Hold’em poker, blackjack, roulette, students got to try their luck betting with poker chips worth different amounts. By the end of the event at 10p.m., students had to turn their poker chips for raffles tickets. They could turn those in to have a chance to win air pods, apple watches, JBL speakers, and more.
Demaurie Wiltz, Port Arthur sophomore, said she enjoyed the event.
“It's my first time going to this event, and I wasn't expecting it to have such a big turnout. It was very fun. Because of this, I'm going to go to more events, because I probably wouldn't have come if my friends didn't come.”
The event had croupiers designated for each game that was available, and they would give out tokens to start the games and show students how to play each game.
Colton Bryant, Lamar junior, said he would recommend the event to people.
“I would definitely recommend Casino Night. It's a great way to meet people and just have fun whenever you're bored and don't have anything else to do.”
Week of Welcome events continue through Aug. 30
