BEAUMONT, Texas – After Sunday's kickoff against the University of Denver was delayed by an hour-and 45 minutes due to weather, the Lamar University soccer team gave up three second-half goals to drop a battle to the visiting Pioneers, 3-0.
The Cardinals would put up a season-high 11 shots, including seven in the first half. Taylor Conway and Cena Carlson would both have three shots including two on goal. Arely Alaniz would add two shots in the game. Taylor Howard started in goal and recorded three saves.
LU and Denver were dead even statistically in the first half, with both teams putting up seven shots. Denver turned the tide quickly out of halftime with goals in the 48th and 50th minute before adding an insurance goal later in the 80th minute for the final margin. The Pioneers turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, outshooting the Cardinals, 12-4.
Big Red will turn their attention to Rice University on Thursday for a 6:05 p.m. kickoff. The game is scheduled to take place in Houston at Holloway Field.
