Lamar University’s National Pan Hellenic Council hosted a hump day in the Setzer Student Center, Aug 24, as part of the Week of Welcome events.

Hump day showcases Lamar’s sororities' and fraternities' tradition of strolling to music. Students get to meet members of the organizations and learn their cultures.

“It’s a great thing for the Black culture, one of the main things in the Black fraternities, the NPHC, so it’s always cool seeing them do these types of things” Terrence Winston, Houston senior, a member of Sigma Nu fraternity, said.

Kyla Johnson and her friend Talia Irvine, both Houston seniors, said they have enjoyed hump day since their freshman year.

“We love it,” Johnson said. “We’ve been coming ever since we were freshmen, it’s a good experience to see our peers of our color, and it’s also a good way to connect with others.”

Week of Welcome events continue through Aug. 27.
