Update: Feb. 17 at 3 p.m.: Lamar University sent out the following statement at 3 p.m. Feb. 17: "

Due to low water pressure in the city of Beaumont affecting the Lamar University campus, as well as continued effects from this winter weather system across the state, campus will remain closed for the remainder of the week with all classes cancelled.

All events on campus for Thursday and Friday are cancelled. Sporting events for Saturday are being evaluated and their status will be communicated on Friday. Dining and Residence Halls remain open for students living on campus.

LU’s resiliency is once again being tested. This state-wide, winter weather event has caused undue stress in an already difficult time. We understand that these are unprecedented times. We will work together, as we have in the past, and overcome the challenges we face.

The Lamar University community is unlike any college community in the nation. While others have dealt with a global pandemic, Cardinals have navigated the pandemic, two hurricanes and a plant explosion. In a matter of days, our campus will be restored, and we’ll again resume our spring semester. Until that time, stay warm, safe and strong during this trying time.

Semester dates may require adjustments in order to accommodate lost instruction time, especially for the shorter 5 and 8-week semesters. Additional information about those changes will be provided at a later date.

All are asked to stay alert and continue to monitor LU’s social media sites, your LU email, LiveSafe and Lamar.edu/alerts for official updates as this winter weather event progresses. "

"Dear Cardinals,

We will keep you updated. Please visit other areas on campus that are WiFi capable in the meantime.
