The Lamar University Department of Theatre & Dance is pleased to present their Spring
2021 Dance Preview. Performances will be held in-person on Friday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m., two performances
on Saturday, March 6 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, March 7 at 2 p.m. in the Studio Theatre located on
the LU campus.
The Dance Preview is a sampling of what the audience can expect in our mainstage performance of Dance
Unleashed scheduled for April 22 -25 in the University Theatre. The intimate performance event will feature
sophisticated creative works by the Department of Theatre & Dance faculty as well as guest artist Marlana
Doyle of the Houston Contemporary Dance Company and the Institute for Contemporary Dance Houston. The
audience can expect to see jazz, tap, modern and a variety of contemporary dance styles performed by the
LUTD student company.
"I feel the toughest challenge for me has been creating work without touch or partnering or the basic intimate
interactions of dancers on stage. It shifted my choreographic approach and design decisions throughout the
process," said Amy Elizabeth, instructor of dance. “The faculty and students are thrilled to be able to get back
on stage and showcase live performance art for the community again.”
The Dance Preview was generated in order to provide dance students with as many performance
opportunities as possible, even within a new format that includes COVID protocols. The dancers will be
wearing masks while performing and the works were designed with social distancing in mind.
Tickets for the Dance Preview are available for $15 at lamar.edu/dance. Seating is limited and all COVID-19
protocols will be followed.
