Homecoming kicks off

Lamar University kicked off its Homecoming activities with an event in the Setzer Student Center, Sept. 23. Announcers introduced the nominees for Homecoming Court, gave a preview of the events scheduled during the week, and gave away free T-shirts and food.

There are events scheduled every day.

“I’m just excited to go to the events, meet some new people, enjoy the food, and tailgating,” Jasmine Randolph, Livingston senior, said. “The comedy show is my favorite. I went to the one when they had Carlos Miller and it was extremely fun, so I’m excited for that one.”

Lewis Arevall, Hamshire-Fannett sophomore, said that the activities planned for Homecoming are a great way to take a break from the stress of school and tropical storm Imelda and have some fun.

“I think what I’m most excited about is the bonfire and the comedy show I just heard about,” he said. “Apparently they just roast each other the whole time, so I think that will be really cool to just watch, especially because we’re getting to the point where it’s like midterms and the first couple of exams — it’ll be a good way to release some stress.”

Natalie Brannon, Houston senior, said this Homecoming is her last, and she plans to make the most of it.

“I’m looking forward to spending time with my friends and going to a lot of events and building memories my senior year,” she said.
