Women's Basketball

11/1/11 11:33 AM

The women’s basketball team took the court for the first this fall. The Lady Cards faced off against Paul Quinn College, winning 97-55. Kalis Loyd grabbed 10 boards to go along with 12 points and seven steals in only 20 minutes of play. Taylor Hays lead Lamar with 17 points in 17 minutes on the court. The Lady Cards seem to be on track to continue their dominant ways and take back the conference title.

Legacy of Jobs seen around UP

10/11/11 9:50 AM

The legacy and vision of Steve Jobs can be seen all around the University Press newsroom. From iPads, to Macbooks, to Mac desktops, apple products have become an important part of the production process. The University Press has had a fully integrated Mac system since 1991. Being the first news organization to have Mac systems between New Orleans and Houston, the Port Arthur news looked to the UP for guidance on their Mac system. The UP staff will continue to proudly engage Jobs’ legacy in our endeavor of providing quality news to the community.

Food for thought:

Did you know that, according to Eric Rauchway, author of "Murdering McKinley: The Making of Roosevelt's America," when President William McKinley was shot in 1901 he was taken to the hospital in an electric ambulance? So you mean to tell me that there have been electric vehicles since 1901, and in more than 100 years the technology has yet to reach a point that would help relieve our dependency on fossil fuels? Or could it be that there is more at stake regarding the consumption of oil, which translates to a higher price tag?
